Rick Massey's Monte Carlo w/ Vinyl Top
I've seen a few Monte's with the vinyl roof. These have been in Florida, and for sure it's a custom package offered by some dealers. I even saw an 06/07 Impala done up with the vinyl top with the landau roof chrome thingy's on the rear quarter panels of the roof. Looked kinda neat, but really put the cars into another visual class. Made them look like upscale rich peoples cars rather than tough muscle types.
I almost passed on buying the car because at first glance I thought it was a convertible. I've never had any luck with Rag-Tops. My wife insisted we take it out for a test ride and we liked it right away. The PO was good about doing the Oil Changes and it had New Brakes and Rotors and a few other things. The comfy leather interior and the fact it was owned by a lady who had it detailed every now and again at her office parking lot sold me.
After getting into it a bit, I learned that some of the schedules maintenance was neglected, so I caught-up on that stuff right away.
My thoughts on the roof??
I really don't care for it ... but its a good color match and should help keep the cabin cool when the July and August sun is high in the sky.

there has NEVER been a convertible Monte
I do'nt capitazlize NEVER to be mean, i capitalize to add emphasis.
To my knowledge, there simply hasn't been one in ANY year model.there have been t tops and sunroofs, but no convertible. somebody posted a picture awhile back where somebody converted a 6th generation to a convertible... looked very sharp. so rick, you don't have to worry... unless somebody put alot of moeny into it, if you see a Monte, its got a hard roof.

Now I know. I didn't before I bought the car. The Vinyl Top has a Chrome strip holding the bac-end down. On the Chrome strip ... there are those small, round, snaps that some kind of cover would snap down onto. It gives you the impression that the car is a convertible. That's why I balked at even taking a close look at it before we figured-out it wasn't a rag-Top. Once we found-out that it was a Hard-Top ... we took it out for a test ride and I knew it was going to be right.
Now that I have caught-up with a good deal of the maintenance ... the car is really behaving nicely. The High-Low Beam switch is intermittent and the High Beams don't always cancel. I got a quote from CHEVY Parts, today, on the cost of a New Multi-function Switch ... I'm still gasping for air! $475.00 Four hundred seventy-five bucks -- for the Part and two hours labor at $95.00 @ Hour to install it.
When the weather gets better, I'm going to have a look inn there myself. I'm hoping that its just an alignment issue having to do with the Tilt Steering.
My guess it that the thing is Plastic and some part of its mechanism is cracked or loose.
Maybe something I can fix with a dab of epoxy ... worth a shot rather than shelling out close to 7-Bills for the New one!

It's an acquired taste. It's growing on me; too.
Although, I don't know how well it's going to blend with the nice big Bow-Tie emblem I got for the back window. I'm goin' for the "Street-Chevy-Look" ... not the "Can I fix you up with a girl" look.
I like the car, though. It's going to be one of my "All-time faves"!
