Default Rare 1979 Monte Carlo or Not

I have a 1979 Monte Carlo and I need someone to let me know if this trunk lid was a factory option on these cars or a customized piece. I have had different opinions about it but nothing concrete. If you know the facts please let me know. Also if you could point me to a source that backups this trunk as factory please let me know as well. Thanks for viewing my post.

well that a first for me and I'm pretty knowledgeable on montes from 78-07 having owned each generation and multiple cars including a 78 and 80 model back in my younger days. Never saw that trunk lid like that or that style vinyl top either. seen some with vinyl tops but that design just doesn't appear right.

Wow, I've never seen this model either. I've owned a 78 Monte with a white vinyl top but as for trunk lid either its very rare or a custom job. Did research and can't find any photos or facts to support that trunk lid. Maybe just a copy cat from how certain Lincoln models were back in the day. very odd but good work from pic

I have seen some Monte Carlo's at car shows with continental kits on them but they were usually the bumper extension style. This one appears to be customized by using a Trunk lid from a Lincoln Mark 7 maybe from 88 thru 94 and patching it in. Monte's had an option called a Landau vinyl roof but I am not sure when Chevy ended that option. So this one has a 1/3 vinyl roof just done in extra padding. More like Cadillac or Lincoln.
Some pics I found are attached the Monte appears to have a kit from a Cadillac. The Lincolns show a similar look as this one.

I am sure this is fun to talk about when folks ask you about it?
What does the Letters spell on the continental kit?

Classicman saw this thread and I was wondering if you still have the car. I don't have any info on it but I saw one like it a long time ago and was wondering if you were interested in selling it.

We have the same Monte Carlo. White, vinyl top, 1980 with the 5th tire on the lid of the trunk. The guy we bought it from said there were very few made. I have never seen another until now! I am dying to find out the truth... kit or factory??? And of course the value.
