Race Wars AZ Recap
Definitely was and also nice to meet others from here and put a face to the name. Plus aren't many monte Carlos here that show their car.
Nice pictures, turned out really good!
The turnout was definitely huge, way more than anyone was expecting. It really did have all the ingredients to make an awesome show though. Hopefully they do it again with better planning next time and preferably a different venue.
My biggest complaint about this show were the terrible coordination for getting people in the gate. I understand that a lot of people flooded in around opening time- but when I got in the line and noticed 50%+ of the people had their cars shut off and were just pushing them forward every few minutes as space allowed - that is just poor planning. No reason why the cars shouldn't be able to keep filing in at some reasonable pace rather than one car every few minutes. When they opened up the secondary 'lot', they ended up with a lot of people that never even paid to get in because they had no way for the people to buy tickets before they walked into the car show.
That leads me to my second point- I figured it would be some dirt lots judging by the overhead view of the airport, but that secondary lot we had to park in was miserable- you either parked in the rocky wash or in the beach sand along the sides. I ended up in the beach sand with my freshly washed vette that ended up covered in sand. I wasn't the only person either, I'd bet more than 50% of the spectators brought their modded cars as well -some of those things were beautiful on the highway waiting to come in. IMO it's ridiculous to expect those people to park out in the desert. Honestly, if they would've had a paved area to park- I would've walked around the spectator lots to see some of the cool stuff out there.
As tweek mentioned, it was good to finally meet some people off these forums. I know a few members that are carryovers from the old mymonte days that went to the ultimate mymonte meets and such, but there just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of people out this far west that are into Wbodys.
I've probably said it before, but I'll say it again- the amount of work into Zippy's car is crazy! The car is beautifully built and definitely has a lot of attention to detail in the mods. It's amazing how much more you can notice seeing it in person rather than on a tiny computer monitor.
Again it was great seeing you guys, maybe we can meet up again if they do it next year!

They are planning on November same place bit the city is gonna build more parking for the event as the expressed intentions of making this a long term event plus they are gonna have separate entrances for race and show cars plus trams from farther lots. Looks like they are planning for the mistakes that happened
I was right at buying my "Run" ticket and looked down to find a CEL showing. Read the code and it was 0102, Basically this means that there is a problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or circuit. A more technical description would be that the MAF circuit had lower than expected voltage (air flow). I texted Matt about it and without being able to test it he said I was taking my chances as it could go lean under boost if the MAF was faulty. So it was a dang it moment, so close. Was also throwing 0227 / 0332 engine knock sensors, so I was resigned to just doing the car show. Grrr...

I was surprised to see an event run out of water, no vendors had any for sale nor were there any potable fresh water taps on buildings or even water trailers available. They were just lucky the day was somewhat moderately temperate. There was no price gouging though, when water was available it was for $1 per bottle.
Totally was cool to have met Chris Tweek) with his really nice Earnhart edition Monte Carlo SS. He is like some OCD person as most of us tend to be when it comes to cleaning and maintaining his car. I had to put guards around his Monte to keep him away from it, jheesh Chris.
Thanks Chad (Bumpin96) there are a couple handfuls of members on the forum with the depth of knowledge you possess and I was excited to know you were coming to the event. Really wanted to get your opinion on my cars build as I follow your Monte's build threads and have always been impressed with the extra high level of quality work your doing. So I knew with your eye and knowledge you could give my build a discerning assessment. I was honored to have you look it over, was eager to follow you around and have you point out things that other viewers never point out. I hope your build is close to being back on track an your new schedule can be followed. It was so nice to have met you Chad.
