i would just do a cap and rotor the gm factory hei should be good to rev up to 5000+ rpm and i dont think your going to turn that hard an rpm. and if your going to do a cam swap you might want to freshen up the bottom end with some new bearings. since you already have the heads off you might want to pick up a cheap set of heads to take advantage of the cam. just my opinion. before we pulled the 400 for a serious build up we did a cam intake and carb swap on it. and we dynomited the bottom end. spring for the bearings and save your self a headache. oh and heres a link so you dont have to just sheet metal the firewall when you pull all that crap out.

yeah all that computer controlled stuff is crap. i had it on my 88 cutlass. i know you said that youll probably hear this from everyone but if your going to pull the motor and what not you might just want to pick up a 350 block from a yard and get a rebuild kit from paw. it would save you coin in the long run and keep you from doing everything twice.

sorry to hear that your running in to some bad things like the frame needing to be stratend and the trans needing to be rebiult. but on the bright side while every thing is out you can clean up the engin bay. suverly do to how old the car is and see if you need outher things that needs attention best thing to do is to do it slow so you know it is going to be great after you put in the engine that you want and trans. what i mean look around the front suspention peaces ball joints things like. that so nothing will go supprise i am busted after you get every thing together and driving. thats what i will do just to be on the safe side

i am just saying just to be on the safe side and it will be easyer to get to majority of the stuff while the engine and trans is out.

justin, i gotta say im reallly enjoying this thred and kudos on using the AC Delco engine hoist

you ought to spend a saturday and remove whatever is left under the hood and clean everything real good. then mask whatever might be left and spray - bomb the whole thing black & put everything else back in sunday. that way its done for your new engine, and its cheap to do

i had multipul thaughts and i was always told from other posts i have made spread them apart they get lost on what i was saying. sorry if you are going threw a rebuild remember when you are done on the things needing to be adressed and car together you will be defenetly be happy with your monty. the builds that i have done in the past and now i usually have satisfaction to know every thing is right where i made it to be. be patient and every thing looks like is going to be good it looks like its going to be hard. its not its going to be fun to know every thing is going to be done right and going to be fun to drive when done.
