Um silver came on the bottom of superchared ss monte carlos. Not all the supercharged Montes came with the silver bottoms . Look at the top of the page , that's a supercharged without the silver trim . I do likethe silver trimthough .

i think its actually called a ground effects kit, if you look at the one on the of the page, it does have it, but it is not painted silver. the best way to tell is look at the rear bumper, see how the chrome tips just fit perfectly into the bumper? thats a ground effects kit.

I had an 04 Supercharged SS, and now my 07 SS, and in bothe cases, the tutone paint, (Lower ground effects being silver) was optional, when ordering the car. There wasn't any additional charge, which I would have expected, so you could have the cars either way. The tutone option was limited to the SS models.

Apparently they did offer non-supercharged SS models, not sure if the non-S/C models were available in 04 & 05, but I don't know if the tutone was offered on that model or not.

Chevy (and more then likely GM) considers the cars with lower ground effects in a different color a down grade versus those with body color ground effects.

But I'll bet there a fine line here.

The cars with BLACK as a lower color are the cars Chevy considers a lower end car. While the cars with saySILVER at the bottom are higher end and quite likely only for the SS models.

There was an non-supercharged SS model available in '04.

I have both 2004 brochures, the US one and the Canadian one. I get conflicting info from the two.
According to the US brochure, the supercharged SS got silver ground effects. Non-supercharged SS models got body color ground effects.

The Canadian brochure says the supercharged SS model has a choice of body color and ground effects color combinations according to color.

Body Color / Ground Effects Color

Galaxy Silver Metallic / Galaxy Silver Metallic
Superior Blue / Galaxy Silver Metallic
Competition Yellow / Galaxy Silver Metallic
Competition Yellow / Competition Yellow
White / White
White / Galaxy Silver Metallic
Black / Black
Black / Galaxy Silver Metallic
Victory Red / Victory Red
Victory Red / Galaxy Silver Metallic
Berry Red Metallic / Galaxy Silver Metallic
Medium Gray Metallic / Medium Gray Metallic
Medium Gray Metallic / Galaxy Silver Metallic

Of course none of this applies to the Signature Series models.

That's the info I got from the 2004 Monte Carlo brochures from GM. I can't explain the conflicting info.
