Info: P0455 cause?

Evap leak caused by SC solenoid?
Hello and thanks for any and all help on this. I have seen a lot of posts on the code p0455. I have it on my 04 SS supercharged. Looking under the hood today I saw on the SC bypass solenoid that there were 2 ports, one being used and the top one unused and appears to have been been capped with some kind of foam that has deteriorated.I have now capped it off. Could this be my cause of the code or should I have left it alone? Please advise. Thanks

I had this code and after doing a lot of research and buying a new (and un-needed gas cap) I bought an EVAP charcoal control canister from the dealership (the only place I could find it for about $65) and replaced it. Code and CEL were gone. It's located inside the drivers side rear wheel well near the gas filler neck.
