Opinions on the next step?
Hey Quatermain, I thought you joined the navy. If you did, have you checked USAA for your insurance needs? You may want to give them a call. I have my insurance through them from my years in the army and I've never been happier.
its kinda weird how like 85% of the trans failures i hear about on the ls4 cars are guys that baby the *** out of the car. the guys that drive them like filthy savages trannys seem to last longer. you are right the transmissions are extremely prone to failure. if thats the only worry then i would go out and build it up right away and then do a few serious bolt ons and leave it enjoy it.
I don't know why they didn't do the modification for a 4t80 off the bat- IIRC the lower horsepower Bonneville GXP with the 4.6 got the 4t80.
To avoid paying my $500 deductible for my insurance, I have chosen to file through USAA, where there is no deductible charge, so they've been handling most of the claim so far, and I will admit that they have done a pretty nice job so far. I only wish I could get this all settled sooner, the sooner it's over, the sooner I get my money, the sooner I can buy a new Monte Carlo.
Which reminds me, I found a nice 2005 Monte Carlo SS (Tony Stewart edition) black with 39,500 miles, it has had two owners, and is selling for $13,500 from a private seller. I think that price is a little high, I'd pay $12,000, but I am very interested in this car, so I'll see what happens.
About the transmission deal on the 2006-2007 Monte Carlo SS, does it use\ the same transmission that the 2004-2005 Monte's used? I thought that the 4t60e wasn't supposed to be able to handle 300HP, or maybe that was about when it started to have problems.
