Onstar Question

RE: Onstar Question
Most rental agencies carry a huge insurance system and get a good amount of money if the car is stolen. And a lot of Major rental agencies wont buy 1-2 cars at a time. They will buy 50-100 cars from GM fleet. Removing onstar is around 1,000 back into the pocket of the rental agency per car. So you can look at a savings of 50,000 to 100,000 off the bottom line.

RE: Onstar Question
I got my onstar disabled once I learned that you can listen to the conversations using a regular analogue scanner. Not that im paranoid, but I enjoy my privacy. And the thief system only works when the battery is connected. If the thief can defeat passlock 3+, they can disconnect a battery, rendering it useless. Me and GPZ had this debate a long while ago, and when I first got it, I loved it. Now I see that it isnt worth it.

RE: Onstar Question
Turns your Onstar into a GPS signal for your laptop. Dont' go by a 600$ GPS unit, buy a 1500$ laptop. Buy microsoft streets and trips for 120$ and plug this hack into it.... (yeah right...)
Basically saves you a few bucks bynot having to buy the GPS "puck" antenna.
I'll admit it's a really neat rig, if you have a spare laptop lieing around.. and don't want to have another puck antenna stuck on the car.. but seriously? Unless I do a Car-PC I'd rather buy the antenna.
