Which one is fastest ???
Which one is fastest. The Super charged 6 cyl. Or the V 8 ?? I had a thunderbird super coupe. 6 cyl. That could stay up with the Ford V 8. But not beat it. So I was wondering ...mmmmmmmmmmm

Typically, L67 powered w-bodies run between a 14.6-15.3 stock while LS4 powered w-bodies usually run between a 14 flat to 14.6 in the 1/4 mile. Stock to stock, the LS4's are faster, but they have a much smaller aftermarket.
As far as the Ford's are concerned, Ford only just recently produced a worthy V8 (the new 5.0). The supercharged 3.8's in he Thunderchickens were actually okay usually running about a 14.9-15.4 in the 1/4 while the V8's were a little bit slower, but not much.

the superchiken and the super cat aka supercharged v6 cougar. my dads first cougar was the super cougar i put on a smaller pully for the supercharger and better exaughst and headers on it. it ran about 14.5 befor the upgrades and 13.5 befor some one hit it so hard that it was totalled but i kept all of the good stuff and sold them to a guy needy for them for his superchicken. he runs 13 all day with his set up he told me he was happy with that set up till he got anouther dd so he can go all the way with it. but the super charged v6 for both ford and chevy are pretty potent if you are willing to serch for the things you want for them. but my opinion it is a opinion is i rather have a rear wheel drive set up to make power and fun do to limeted aftermarket for some front wheel drive cars. dont get me wrong i like the power that the 3800 super charged monte's have and the after market for them but it is still limeted on what we can do to them. on the bright side we can have a pretty quick front wheel drive monte's but i wish the monte's were still rear wheel drive at times because of it is easy to do upgrades and very little custum work to do for the upgrads unfortunetly. but i love a quick front wheel drive dd and a fast rear wheel one for fun.

It is very hard to gauge what's faster these days, almost anything can be modded and the sleeper look is the in thing....most people into car's don't leave there cars stock...Like finding a Stock Grand National, or 03/04 Cobra or new GTO...
For instance my Monte a 2000 that is only supposed to come N/A gives plunty of V8's a surprise...took everything my GTO had to get around it....
Only one way to find out how cars can compete, and it's not on paper...

In the Monte? I'd say the LS4 V8. The L67 supercharged 3.8 is rated at 240hp from the factory. Yes there are mods for it to increase the power. But the way I see it, the supercharged 3.8 is already modded. It's based on the 200hp N/A 3.8
the LS4 is rated at 303hp from the factory. Mods made to it will only make it even more powerful yet.
I maybe wrong, but trying to get 350+ hp (for example) out of the L67 supercharged 3.8 would cause you tranny problems in the long run.

The 4T60E Can't Handle a lot of extra pony's and the 4T65E -HD Can't handle much more
You will have to beef up the tranny's to compete and keep going that's my next mod.
In any transmission heat is the enemy so add a tranny cooler and a gauge to see what your running all the time.

The supercharged 3.8's got the heavy duty tranny. But it's still a stock transmission designed for normal everyday street use. It wasn't designed to be used for any kind of racing. Adding a cooler will help. But you're just delaying the inevitable tranny failure if you use it to race on a regular basis. You should be good if you're just getting in the occasional friendly race.

The 4t65e-HD isn't really that different then the non-HD tranny. The only real differences are the better diff and the 2.93's for fuel economy (non-hd's have 3.29's). Even heat isn't much of a problem with our trannys. The main problem comes from strong sudden actions, such as doing a burnout with drag slicks. These cars weren't designed to be raced, they're simply meant to be driven.
And that's exactly why we should race them

Beg to differ, the 4.6 DOHC's are great engines, and when adding a blower on a 4v engine, you see awesome results. Example, the 03/04 cobras. Mine, being a 99/01 is not F/I but still puts out decent power (320 bwhp)
