i haven't even been over 70 in any vehicle for about a month and half now....

but don't take the wrong way... i've been up to 130 a couple of times.

 

With the latest anti-racing laws here in Ontario, Canada they would have taken your licence away immediately until you made a mandatory court appearance, given you a HUGE fine, and they would have impounded your car for a week. Plus what ever the judge decides to throw at you.

This applies to any getting caught going 50kph (about 30mph) over the speed limit.

 

umm not true! What you are reffering to is the "walmart" radar detectors that cost around $80 and do just as you described. Spend the money on a real one (Escort, Valentine One, Beltronics) and they DO work. I can pick up police MILES ahead of me.

Where did you get caught and by what dept. What did they clock you with?
I am from PA too and detectors only do ya good on Highways patroled by the State Police all local police and sheriff depts CAN NOT use Radar or laser.
So they use mainly VASCAR and Enradd.
Did you get a lawyer cuz most times they will be able to bring it down a bit so you dont loose you license?

Sorry to sound like a whimp but I love MY money in MY pocket a lot better then I love MY money in the COP's pockets. So I drive the posted the speed limit.

Not saying I'm not guilty of excessive speed cause I am. Like the time some ##%%*& idiot woman ran the stop sign right infront of me (I was turning left and had already started my turn). She blows through the stop sign at at least 55mph with no indication of even touching her brake pedal.
If she'd have contacted my car, she probably would have killed me?

SOOOOOOO...... I chased her down.

And she blew through the stop sign in the next town without even slowing down AGAIN. There was a cop setting at the edge of town so I went back and complained about this driver.




not to be mean but that is dangerous. Maybe this will make you think twice before doing it again.

A guy I went to college with was known for driving 80 or so in a 55mph zone if not faster. And he always braggedhe'd never been caught.

I run one but only for the Safety Alert feature someambulances and fire trucks are equipped with... it's also good for the rookie and gung-ho cops who leave their guns on or who are snappin at every # car down a stretch... anything more than that (Scorpion jammer)is very illegal, very expensive, AND very high maintenance!

Ya, IF they have their gun on... with Instant On and POP modes on most radar guns now, a lot of officers cruise with their guns off until they think they need it... I know b/c I have met cops on the streets (on-coming, at an intersection, came upon and coming up on me) that never set it off and I noticed their light bar, cow catcher,and paint job before anything went sour...

I think it's 35 here in South Dakota... I say that b/c I got a 30 and am still driving! [&:][][:-][&o]

 

Oh, and rj, I can sympathize with this because, about two weeks ago, I was at a stoplight behind a black SUV and the light went green but he went nowhere as the white SUV next to him pulled away. The black SUV noticed the light when the white SUV was a car and half to two cars away and proceeds into the intersection. As I was thinking "FINALLY!" I notice, in my peripheral vision, a white car haulin ace towards her red light at the crossing... and she blows it RIGHT into the front corner of the black SUV in front of me! had he gotten off the light it would have been me in the intersection and my fiberglass bumber would NOT have fared as well as the GMC's steel bumper... since then I have been clearing EVERY intersection before I enter!

 

here goes the radar detector argumetn....

me and my friends get into this argument every week it seems like.

fact is, you can't detect a plane on radar unless he's in the air. you can't detect a cop's radar gun unless he has it on. if it's not scanning right now, it's not going to detect. yes, some cops are stupid/lazy and leave it on all the time

( i remmeber seeing one cramped down into his car in South Carolinaalmost hiding behind his window ledge pointing his gun... my dad saw the little light go off inside when he clocked us... EVERYBODY on that hill slowed down becasue he was hitting the cars that were right on top of him, not the ones that were cresting the hill who coudln't see him... what a moron)

but my dad can promise you he got more tickets with a radar detector than he did without. it is nothing but a false sense of security in my opinion. ot those of you who got them, i hope you guys realize they still aren't a substitute for being paranoid, watchful, and cautious... just a suplement.

 

I'm wondering if some cops leave the radar gun on deliberately. So people with radar detectors will slow down more often.
