Sorry guys I am not a monte man anymore, I've had my monte more than about 2 months now, and it's about to go bye bye... I changed the water pump today and it's running hot... I think the thermostat got messed up during this whole process of putting new coolant in the car from it becoming empty.. but if it's not the thermoste i will be getting rid of the car for something else.. Sorry guys but that's how it goes... Thanks for the help everyone it's been a really helpful site, and I will miss it..

Sorry to hear you gotta get rid of your car. But I can understand your reasons.
You can still come visit us when ever ya like. One of our moderators (wizz kid) doesn't own a Monte anymore either. He still pops in every now and then. Let us know about your new ride if or when you get it.

you do realize after opening the cooling system and adding new coolant on the 3.1 you have to run the car, open the bleeder screws, and let all the air out or it'll run hot. so go do that and you'll be set

When you do bleed the cooling system ... run the Heater on FULL to get the air out of the Heater Core; too. Get the car running a little bit Off-idle to get the Water Pump pushing a solid column of coolant. Then, open the bleeders and let the Air out from the places where it might collect.

So run the heater on full why I do this bleedin process?
Steps?

loosen the bleedin screws,
turn the car on,
let it run until coolant starts to seep through the screws,
tighten the screws back up,
during the whole process run the hearter on full?

Correct tell me, something need be changed tell me.

Also, thermostats are normal maintainence. When you changea water pump you should change the thermostat with it because you don't know how old it is unless you are the original owner of the car. Good luck, man!
