Nice project car LoudnProudSS.
I'm a fan of the 80's Monte's also. Was your car white at one time? Just going by the paint chipped off of the bumper.
Do you plan to re-paint the car it's current color? That color looks great with metallic paint.
Good luck with your project. Keep us posted as you get the time/money to bring it back to glory.

thanks taz! yea from what i can tell the car came factory with the white paint, then someone did a cheap red paintjob over that, then they put this paint over the red. it looks like they used a good quality paint, but from what i can tell there was NO prep work or primer which is why it is chipping and peeling. i want to strip all the old paint off, fix the rust spots, and have it painted properly the same color. maybe with a light silver metallic racing stripes on the hood, but im not sure about that yet
Any reputable paint shop would refuse to paint the car unless the car is prepped properly.
In your case, it sounds like the red paint job didn't get prepped right, hence the chipping back to the original white. Therefore if you want to do it right, you'd have to strip it right down and start over fresh.
Doing it right the first time saves money in the long run.
