hey guys i got a couple more questions i am getting rid of my 88 z24 it has a 3400 and i got a msd ignition system so if i get a 3800 s/c motor will my msd system work on that motor or is there no point of keepin it ??
and is there smaller s/c pulley's to increace boost ?
what about like headers ,exhaust systems, and ecu upgrades are they fairly easy to get ?

yah there's smaller supercharger pulleys for them, there's a few mods you need to do before you can install them, as for the msd parts you know what you have so just to a look up on the site for the monte your looking @ and see if any of the part #'s match up thats the easiest way to do it, i'm sure some of the stuff will, as the car's use a lot of the same parts for the 3.4's and the3.8's in all the different chevy models

If you are looking to spend 30 large, go for the 06/07 SS if you want neck snapping power. They sound great as well, even with the stock set-up.

hey guys i am thinking about geting a 6th gen monte carlo ss and i was wondering if they all came with the 3800 s/c or if some came with the n/a 3800 if could somebody tell me what year came with s/c as i dont want the n/a 3800 (boat anchor)

thanks guys
In the 2005 model year, all SS Montes were S/C. The S/C was an option in the '04 run.

Why do you call the n/a 3800 a boat anchor? My '05 LT has one and I think it's a great building block. Low end torque is really good. I can't wait until I can afford to add HP to it. The top end leaves a little to be desired. If you are going to spend some money, though...I have seennew SS Montes w/ 5.3 V8 for $25 - $27K.

i'm in the same delemna right now. i've been wanting to add power to my monte (2005 ls, 3400, it wold have to come inthe form of a turbo charger and other upgrades) but then i ran into the 06/07 monte ss with the ls4 engine. that thing is great. its all i'd be asking for and more 303 hp. great sound and all i'd have to do is trade in my current. I think if i can find a dealer that will bring the price down below 20K i'd be spending less money than all the upgrades i was planning....

By the way. a moment of silence is due tomorrow (wednesday) i believe a i saw an articale saying tomorrow the last monte carlo will roll off the production block. I don't know about anyone else.. but i'm starting to see the 07/06 mc's disappear from dealerships.

well i am a die hard chevy man so i dont care much for the 3800 buick motor a stock n/a 3800 is all cast iron and it have 200 hp a stock 3400 witch is a chevy motor is half aluminum has 190hp
so i would rather have the chevy motor but the lack of aftermarket support is what is killing the platform
but i would like to have a s/ced motor and they make the 3800 s/c so i would like to try that and aftermarket support is big it's a big change from doing every performance part custom made fro a change
but i got mothing against the 3800 it's self i know that they can be built to make some big power but it is just preffrence i guess

The base 3800 s/chas 240 hp
Look for a used 06 LT3/LTZ with a 3.9, base hp is 242 (some dealers still have left over 06's)
