New 2006 Monte Carlo LT
For the expected MPG gains I'd say it's all on how you drive it. My '03 3.8 Monte was rated at 17 city and 27 highway. But on a 240 mile trip while on cruise control, then pressing the "coast" button while going down hills, (just really going easy on it) I was able to attain 34MPG and I used less than half a tank of gas, that's comparable or better than some 4 cyl cars. So if they say 30, expect to get up to 35 if you drive it carefully. As for city, 20 sounds about right, maybe 17-18 for the first few weeks, it's hard to keep your foot off the accelerator.
The car sounds too good to be true.
I'm sorry I can't echo my friends comments but I feel a car that is 3 yrs old soon to be 4 the price of $16,900 is way TOO high.
And with 1100 miles on the clock someone drove it some place???????
The LT3s were just under the LTZ models. From what we can gather on here the LTZ was top of the line in 2006. Not the SS. Sure SS got the lower body kit and V8 engine, but LTZ got more toys as standard equipment versus the SS.
Since I own an '06 LTZ, I collected as much information on the 2006 Montes/Impalas as I could get my hands on.
My car was made in april, 2006. I bought it in october from the local Chevy dealer who located the car for me. With just over 10,000 miles on the car I paid $17,000 which is close the price you could be paying for this '06 LT3.
Please don't get me wrong. I hope you buy the car. I know I love my '06 Monte. I wouldn't trade, sell, or cash for clunkers my '06.

The Monte Carlo is either a Luxury car or a Sports car. Never both. The LTZ was the way of giving them a luxury car, and the SS was the way of giving the sports car.
V8 Engine, and Beefier suspension or Less performance but more comfort.
SS is considered the top of the line model for 06...LTZ is the top of the line model with a V6...and LT3 could very well have ALL of the features an LTZ has...that is why Chevy dropped the LTZ for 2007. It really was not neccesary to have the extra model...
Chibi is kinda right in what he says...I like how he put it! Although, the SS has almost all of the features of an LTZ Monte, so what keeps it from being a luxury car? It has a slightly stiffer suspension, and bigger engine, with some extra body moldings for a sporty appearence. IMO no Monte Carlo is a sports car...all Monte Carlos are more of a sporty luxury coupe, just some lean more towards the sporty side of things.

The LTZ has a smoother ride, it's not rough because it's not the sport suspension.
The radio has satellite
Garage door opener
8 Speaker sound system (instead of 6)
It actually has a better turn radius
Plus it has the benefits of a V6 (gas mileage, not premium etc.)
Basically when it came down to it, the LTZ had every option STANDARD.
and the SS had a lot of OPTIONS that stayed options, because the engine + suspension increased the price already. Yes you could have an SS with all the same luxuries, but it would cost a lot more.
The way that I gathered it is this.
