Need some help with some wiring in my 2002 Monte.

I have a 2002 Monte Carlo LS. I am replacing my trunk light with some neon tubes, and I need to know which of the two wires that hooks up to the trunk light is power, and which one is ground. I am just going to splice into them and completely get rid of the trunk light. Or if anyone could point it out to me on a wiring diagram or something, that would be great. Oh, by the way, hi, i'm new here.:D

I have a thing for testing which wire is power and ground I think. You hook the red to the power and the black to the ground, if it is right the meter on it goes crazy. Could I use that? Also, should I disconnect the battery AFTER or BEFORE I check this?

ok the easy way to do this is. take the plug off the trunk light. use a test light Ground the wire to the car some place to make sure it is a good ground. then touch the other end to the wires and see if the light in the test light lights up If it dose you have pwoer there. If it dose not then you have a ground and make sure you dubbel check this by checking the light off the bat befor eyou use it and also check the wires twice to be sure.

one other thing you will have to worry about in this is how to get them to turn on and off as the stock light as a mercury switch in them (something close to it) so it knows when to turn on and off due to its angel or position at any given time. Other wise you have created a big draw on the bat. at all times with the lights on all of the time

You could look in to a pin switch to place some where out of sight and out of mind so it will cure this for you and also make it easier for you
