My first Monte lives on!
I just got a call from dad who had something cool to tell me. He was parked at a store when he pulled up to a white Monte Carlo. He saw it had the same valve caps on the tires my old one had, and the spot near the gas cap where I did a bit of bodywork! He said there was visible rust on it now (being in Minnesota, of course...), but not much and it didn't have the living crap beaten out of it! I was so happy to hear that; I sold the car a year ago and figured the owner would have run it to the ground by now. It no doubt hasn't been pampered like it was with me, but just to know it's still out there and going made my day
I want to buy it back and keep it though...
Just thought I'd share that with you guys.

Well that's good to know. I sold my 02 red LS to my mother-in-law who in turn gave it to her 20 yrs old son who cant even do an oil change. Its run down not only to the ground but all the way through China. Is sad really. I see it every once in a while. The long car length scratch and dents everywhere, the front bumper peeling, old tires I had on them, CV boots torn, water pump leaking, etc.. ugh and not a care in the world to them. Just gas and go.
It's good to hear the old Monte is still in relatively good shape. Back in '76 I sold my Camaro Z28 (302cid) to help finance my first marriage. Within a week the guy I sold it to wrapped it around a utility pole. It was a total loss - just like my first marriage.
The Z28, I mean. Good on ya to get out of the crap marriage

wow way cool to meet an old friend like that again. (Yep cars are our friends)

It irritates me how some people treat their cars- the Monte is too much of a legend to be treated like that. It's not a disposable car like some early to mid '90s subcompact that's rusted with the paint peeling off. Now if it was a '90s Saturn, the paint would be peeling but there wouldn't be any rust because the car is ~95% plastic.
GM used some crappy paint back then.. Our '93 Buick Roadmaster had a similar issue- the paint was peeling off after about 8 years or so (got the car new), while my '82 Olds 98 started loosing it's paint around 1995 or so. Gotta love Fisher Body cars! The Olds got repainted in 2002 or so, and the Buick got T-boned in 2006 or so.. I miss the Chevy 350 that was under the hood of the Buick.. Drank gas, but that car had some muscle for a 4000+ pound vehicle.

I don't understand how people can give not even a thought to something like a car. I get it if you don't care, but, abuse? Really?
