I have a 1996 monte carlo, and just recently it started running bad. The car has not been idling well. When i cam driving very slow or at a dead stop the idling goes up and down. It gets worse when I step on the brake. Some times it will die when I come up to a light. Can anyone please help be diagnose this problem. Thank you for your help.

 

I would check and clean your IAC valve. It may be hung open and messing with your idle. Its a good place to start at least. If that doesnt help I would clean the throttle body and MAF sensor. Another thing to check would be the throttle position sensor, but I would go there last cause its a pain to get to. Is the check engine light on?
