I personally don't trust DOD. It may be more reliable than it used to be but I'm old enough to remember Cadillacs' efforts to try to run it. I just don't trust it. If you want good gas mileage DON'T buy a V8. Just my .02 worth.

And don't be burning the tires.

How youstop also plays a roll in gas mileage.

I asked my saleslady about DOD on '06 Montes. She told me they didn't have it. Maybe she wasn't telling the truth?

The only montes to have DOD are the V8 ones. I'm not for sure if 07 V6 montes have it or not yet, but it is planned for the 3.9 V6 to have it.

So the '07 3.9 is getting DOD, but since there isn't any 3.9s in Monte for '07s then that can't be happening.

But what you're talking about Cain is the 3.5 V6 Montes.

No what I'm saying is that in 07 3.9 V6s will have DOD whatever they are installed in. That was GMs plan. I do believe DOD is slated for 3.5 V6s too BUT not in Montes.

In 2007 the 3.9L was discontinuedin theMonte Carlo& is now only offered in the 2007 Impala. A decrease in HP in the 3.9L Impala from242 HP down to233HP with DOD & less Torque in 07.[:-]Powertrains in the Impala2006 (07 infor @ end of this post) 3.5 L & 3.9 L Engines[:-]
Impala's new family of sophisticated V-6 engines features the first use of variable valve timing in an overhead-valve engine design. A 3.5L V-6 is standard in the Impala LS and LT, delivering 211 horsepower (157 kw) and 214 lb.-ft. (290 Nm) of torque* – more standard power than previous models and, in fact, more power as a base engine than some key competitors' top (or only) offering.
Vehicles in the United States equipped with the 3.5L engine are compatible with E85 ethanol fuel, allowing the vehicle to run on any combination of gasoline and/or E85. In Canada , the E85-compatible 3500 engine is optional.
Standard in LTZ and available in LT models is a 3.9L V-6 built on the same architecture as the new 3.5L V-6. It uses variable valve timing and a variable-length intake manifold to help produce 242 horsepower (180 kw) and242 lb.-ft. (328 Nm) of torqueIn the 06 Monte Carlo & Impala.* The 3.9L engine offers more power and usable torque, with90 percent of peak torque available from 1800 to 5800 rpm.
The V-6 engines have an all-new cylinder block casting and new cylinder heads, sharing only valve lifters with any previous GM engine. The 3.5L V-6 and 3.9L V-6 share more than 80 percent common parts, with the 3.9L V-6 achieving increased displacement with a longer-stroke crankshaft. The 60-degree 'V' configuration is naturally balanced, ensuring drivetrain smoothness and eliminating the need for costly balance shafts.
Unique to this V-6 engine family are offset cylinder bores – the intersection of the cylinder bores' centerline is not at the crankshaft centerline. In this case, the bores' centerline is 3 mm lower than the crankshaft. This was done to allow packaging room for the wider bores, as well as the longer stroke of larger-displacement versions, such as the 3.9L V-6. [&:]

Additionally, the adaptation of variable valve timing with the Impala's V-6 engines is a first for cam-in-block engines. The system incorporates a vane-type camshaft phaser that changes the angular orientation of the camshaft, thereby adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves to optimize performance and economy, and help lower emissions. It offers infinitely variable valve timing in relation to the crankshaft. The cam phasing creates 'dual equal' valve timing adjustments. In other words, the intake valves and exhaust valves are varied at the same time and at the same rate.

What's New for 2007
Changes are few on the 2007 Chevrolet Impala. The 3900 V6 adopts Active Fuel Management DODcylinder-deactivation technology, and a non-E85 version of the 3500 V6 becomes standard for California-level emissions states.
Powertrains and Performance
The LS comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 211 horsepower and 214 pou

3.9 V-6 in the Monte Carlo LT3 & LTZ [:-]
POPULAR MECHANICS Awards GM 3.9 V-6 For Breakthrough Technology
NEW YORK (Sept. 29, 2005) – General Motors' new 3.9-liter V-6 has been recognized for ground-breaking technology by the editors of POPULAR MECHANICS in the publication's first "POPULAR MECHANICS Breakthrough Awards." The announcement was made today at the American Museum of Natural History and will be featured in the October issue of POPULAR MECHANICS, on newsstands nationwide October 11, 2005.
The POPULAR MECHANICS Breakthrough Awards recognize ten individuals and teams, including one winner of the Breakthrough Leadership Award, that are helping to improve lives and expand possibilities in the realms of science, technology and exploration. Additionally, POPULAR MECHANICS highlighted a separate group of ten consumer products that represent milestones in design and engineering.
The 3.9 V-6 has been awarded for the innovative adaptation of variable valve timing, an industry first for overhead valve engines.
"General Motors keeps finding ways to advance overhead valve engines and the 3.9-liter V-6 used in the Impala reaches new levels," said James Meigs, editor-in-chief, POPULAR MECHANICS. "For their continued success and innovation, we're proud to recognize GM with a 2006 Breakthrough Award."
The 3.9 is part of an all-new family of advanced overhead valve, 60-degree V-6 engines. The engine is designed new from the block up and in addition to variable valve timing, incorporates a host of advanced, premium features, including a variable intake manifold, piston-cooling oil squirters, and an advanced 32-bit engine controller.
"The breakthrough development of variable valve timing for the 3.9 demonstrates the continued relevance of the elegant overhead valve engine design," said Dr. Gary Horvat, assistant chief engineer, V-6 engines. "We're honored that the editorial team at POPULAR MECHANICS recognize the significance of this technology."
The variable valve timing system incorporates a vane-type camshaft phaser that changes the angular orientation of the camshaft, thereby adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves to optimize performance and economy, and helping lower emissions. Within its range of operation, it offers infinitely variable valve timing in relation to the crankshaft. The cam phasing creates "dual equal" valve timing adjustments. In other words, the intake valves and exhaust valves are varied at the same time and at the same rate.
The award-winning, 242-horsepower 3.9 V-6 is available in the 2006 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo, .

[:-]Where the 3.9 Engine is Built [:-]Washington Group International Names General Motors Engine Program Industrial/Process Project of the Year
BOISE, Idaho - 8/15/2005 - Washington Group International, Inc. (Nasdaq: WGII) announces the General Motors 3.9Liter Engine Program located near Tonawanda, New York, is "Project of the Year" for the company's Industrial/Process Business Unit.
.
The GM3.9 Liter Engine Program was a rehabilitation of approximately 650,000 square feet of existing space that was constructed in 1937 as an aircraft manufacturing plant. Washington Group International provided engineering, construction, and management for facility modifications and process installation. Construction of the new plant was extremely complex because GM asked Washington Group to revamp the 3.9 Liter Engine facilities without interrupting production levels for the L-18 big block and L-850 Ecotec engines, which are housed in the same facility.
Washington Group International has enjoyed a 50-year relationship with GM. Most recently, the company completed construction of GM's Inline 4/5 Engine manufacturing plant, also in Tonawanda. A year ago the company helped GM rebuild and reopen its three-million-square-foot vehicle assembly plant in Oklahoma City within seven weeks of the plant being ravaged by a tornado.

I knew this thing had roller cams. At WOT you can hear those things wind up and let off that bitchin' roller whine. Much like the first police Mustangs of the early 80's.
