Lightbulb Ls <>z34

I've learned that the 95-99 montes had an LS and Z34 model and the LS had a more base look with a bench seat with column shift with a 3.1 V6 and the Z34 had a sportier look with bucket seats and floor shifter with a 3.4 V6. Was that the only difference? I figured since I have an 02 LS 3.4 and it has most everything the former Z34 had that I could just find some Z34 emblems and it would be cooler than just makin a faux SS, since I've seen it done with 2 montes in my neighborhood. I've already debaged my monte but now it looks plain lol. I bought the slp upper and lower grills and left them flat black which now looks like its own sport package so I'm torn. Suggestions? Thanks

[edit] 1995–1999

For the 1995 model year, the mid-size Lumina was split into two models with the sedan continuing as the Lumina and the coupe reviving the Monte Carlo nameplate for its fifth generation. The new car rode on an updated W-body chassis shared with the Lumina, Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Oldsmobile Intrigue, Buick Century and Buick Regal, and by its nature was the first front-wheel drive Monte Carlo. In 1995, the LS was $16,770 and the Z34 was $18,970. All 1995-2007 Monte Carlo's were built in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Unlike Monte Carlos of previous years, the distinctive bulges to the front fenders and rear quarter panels were gone.
A special run of 400 1995 Z34's were made called the Monte Carlo Brickyard 400 Pace Car. The $2195 option included Interior Ornamentation, Embroidered Leather 45/55 Seating with Full Floor Console, an Aero Wing Spoiler, and an Accent Stripe Package.

For its four year run, the Monte Carlo was available in two trims, the LS and the Z34. Appearances were largely identical between the two models. Styling changes consisted mainly of the special red-colored badging on the Z34, the real difference being under the hood. LS models were powered by the 3.1 L 3100 V6 putting out 160 hp (120 kW) at 5000 rpm (119 kW) and 185 ft·lbf (251 N·m) while Z34's featured a more powerful 3.4 L DOHC V6 engine with 215 hp (160 kW) and 220 ft·lbf (298 N·m). Aside from minor equipment changes, the fifth generation remained virtually unchanged during its life (In 1998, the 3.4 L was replaced with the 3800 Series II, a simpler engine).
All Z34 models came with 16-inch alloy wheels, optional on LS models in place of the standard 15-inch steel wheels with bolt-on wheel covers. 1998–1999 Z34 models received redesigned 16-inch wheels, though the older style alloys remained on the LS.
Though derided by some for its indistinct lines (called the 'Lumina Carlo') and its front-wheel drive drivetrain, the fifth generation sold well enough for Chevrolet to continue the line with a more original redesign in 2000. The 1995 bodystyle was also a favorite on the NASCAR circuit and enjoyed considerable success at the track.
This generation of the Monte Carlo was the last 2-door vehicle featuring 6-passenger seating, although bucket seats were available as an option with a floor mounted shifter.

I have these 5th gen OEM emblems that I got them from a guy who was going to use them on his 92 Lumina Z34. Checking part #10189887 on gmpartsdirect doesn't show them available anymore though.

First, the z34 had sport suspension... as forementioned, the z also had a 3.8 in 98-99
the 3.4 ones you are referring to are the lq1 dohc, not the 3400 sohv

I sanded my z 34 emblems ... under them was chrome, if you sand even more, they turn copper.

Some 5th gen LS' had front bucket seats and a floor shifter, like my first Monte (95 Monte LS).

Otherwise these were the engine choices:

95-99 LS:
3100 v6 160hp 185 lbs-ft

95-97 Z34:
3.4L DOHC v6 215hp 220 lbs-ft

98-99 Z34:
3800 v6 200hp 225 lbs-ft

You could use the Z34 emblems if you like. I've never seen a 6th gen put those emblems on before so you would be unique. Just remember that even though you have a 3.4L v6, it's not the same 3.4L that were in the 5th gens. If you don't care, then go for it. It's creative.

It's really up to you whether you want to do it or not. Personally, I wouldn't. Nothing personal against you. I just don't think it a good idea when anyone puts the top level badges (Z34, SS) on a base model.

The Z34 insignia was used to signify a 3.4L DOHC car from 91-97 (Luminas 91-94 and Monte Carlos 95-97). They used it on the 98-99 models with the 3800 but I dont think they should have. I think they should have dropped the Z34 when they quit using the LQ1. Please dont put Z34 badges on a 3400 car. They are NOT the same engine, not even close.
