Yeah, the RS was all about looks, the SS was more about performance. Dad's '71 Camaro is an RS/SS, has SS badging and everything but also has the added RS appearance package.

A newer LS/SS Monte wouldn't make much sense as the SS generally has all the appearance stuff, as for the older Monte's I have no idea as I don't know how the different trim levels looked.

As for camaros the SS is engine 350 or big block. RS is hideaway headlights on first gen. second gen. is split bumper. I don't think they called them RS-SS after 1973.I have had montes since 1974 and have not seen or heard of LS-SS. I suppose you could take an LS and swap engines to make it a LS-SS.

LS/SS wouldn't make any sense since Chevy put a lower performance engine in the LS (even in 1986) and the same for the suspension.

Sure you can find an LS someone bolted the better suspension parts to. Like mine. But that still doesn't make the car a LS/SS Monte.

In 2006 the LTZ model got a touring suspension but the SS still got the performance suspension.

I know for 2006 the Impala got the FE1 & FE3 suspensions with FE3 going under the SS Impalas. The Monte got the FE2 & FE4 suspensions with the FE4 going under the SS Montes.
