Ls? Lt? Ss?

Ls? Lt? Ss?
What's the difference? I know how they rank on the "cool" scale, but how do they differ physically, I think my LS has got mixed and matched features...Oh, and what does "LS" and "LT" stand for? I know SS is Super Sport.

LT isn't an acronym for something like “Luxury Touring” on newer models. According to a Chevrolet representative, it’s simply a code for higher-optioned trim designations. LT trims commonly have features and pricing that rank in between the base LS models and the higher-end LTZ, Sport or SS models. Some cars have two, three or even four levels of LT, named 1LT, 2LT, 3LT and 4LT, with each package having progressively more features.
But it all depends on what years you are talking about.

Chibi gave a pretty darn good explaination....each trim just has a few more features. Its very possible that your LS has the exact same features as a 1LT, but those feature are options on your LS, and standard on the LT...usually there is something not available on the lower model that is available on the upper model though. I think for the 06 model that an LS could be equal in features except for the dual zone climate control that became standard on the LT. Onstar might not have been available on 06 LS Monte's either, but I can't say for sure. I know it was an option on my LT because it shows on my sticker additional cost for onstar....Engines usually play somewhat of a role in distinguishing models too...

Ya, it's an '06 3.5l V6. It has dual zone climate control, cloth interior, power driver seat, but it's missing the upgraded radio, on-star, moon roof, and some other stuff. I think it's an LS w/ some LT options in that case. thanks guys.

An example of the 2006 Montes the LTZ was the only model to get the 3900 V6 engine as standard equipment. Some 3LTs were dressed up to the LTZ level but they still remained 3LT models. So something was not attached other wise the car would have been an LTZ.
Only things I can think of my LTZ didn't get was the side impact air bags. Which I wish it did have. And then the obvious, the 5.3 V8 engine, 18" wheels, and SS body kit.
In the 1980s the LS (Luxury Sport) models were just a step below the SS. They didn't get the H O engines (not sure if one could have been ordered from the factory?) but if you wanted the F4 sport suspension like the SS got all you had to do was have it added on when ordering the car. The SS models also got a closer ratio steering box. I don't know which year this started? It could have been with the '83 SS models or it could have been a later feature. Like 1986, 86 or 88.
For the 1980s Montes the SC, LS, and SS did stand for something. And there was also a LC model at least in the late 1970s and early 1980s there was. It stood for Landau Coupe. Which got the optional landau roof. I believe the LC models also got some other added features not offered to the SC models.

Weird, I would have though your LTZ had the side impact airbags...my LT has them, but it was a $600 option that the car already had sitting on the dealer lot.
Speeking of ealier model Chevy's my 2003 Cavalier was and LS Sport..which was the top of the line model. In the case of my cavalier there was base, ls, and ls sport....and I think other Chevy models LS was the upper model at the time.
I don't think it was until 2005 that they made LS the base model, and brought back LT....I know they used to have LT models in the early 90's...but I really don't know when they dropped LT badging, and when they started it back up to be exact.

There is a 2005 LT? I ask cause I didn't see any mention of one in the 2005 dealer's album. Unless I missed the information all together?
I know LT was still in the Monte line up in 2007. But I can't find any evidence there were other levels of LT like in the '06 Montes?
