Hey I recently bought my 01 Monte SS and realized one day that the key will not unlock the doors... :-( the key works fine to start the car and lock the glove box... the only key i have is a generic none GM key, could this be the reason? PLEASE HELP!!!

 

is the key kind of roughed up? if there's any small issues with the key that would cause it not to work

 

Maybe the door lock's were changed before you bought it

 

i think its funny that you can use any 2000-2005 Chevy key to lock and unlock any glove box in any 2000-2005 chevy. i lock my friends glove box with my key and he gets annoyed . hahaa! and maybe its the door key slot thats the problem?!

 

I just checked when I went out on break. My key doesn't open my door either. Weird. I have had this car for over three years now and I have never tried.

 

I was wondering about that. My guess is the changed the ignition switch because the lost the keys, so they had no door key.

 

Thanks for all the replies... Yeah I thought the ignition may have been replaced...and the glove box is what lead me away from that... And the glove box thing is weird because I bought a used one and my key wouldn't lock or unlock it so I used the lock from my original glove box... I just now realized I could check the trunk lock to confirm whether our not the ignition has been changed

 

I have the exact opposite issue lol anything will unlock my door even a paper clip

 

I've never put the key in my door or trunk in the year that I've owned my car either. Darn remote door locks.:p Seriously though, now I'm going to try it.

 

To be honest I don't think I've done either, when I go to use the key in the door, there is that fear of slipping and scratching up that area, that's my excuse...
