Just received a RECALL notice in the mail for my 2006 Monte
Affects CERTAIN 2006 Impala and Monte Carlo vehicles and 2005-06 GrandPrix
Quote
"Customers have reported an unusual number of power steering fluid leaks involving the power steering fluid return line. When these vehicles are started at temperatures of -20C (-4F) or below, the pressure on the hose is substantially higher than in warmer conditions and may exceed the strength of the power steering hose or clamps. If this were to occur you would likely notice fluid spotting under the vehicle when the vehicle is parked and a decrease in power steering assist. If enough fluid is lost, damage to the power steering pump could occur."
The rest is blah blah
Will be fixed at no charge until October 31/2007

yeah, thanks for the info - will keep an eye out. Although, I got my Monte back in November 2005 so I've been through one winter with mine already, and as cold as it was last year, I didn't have any problems at all.
Wonder if this'll be a problem with my car?
Maybe it was already repaired?
Maybe it'd be a better idea to contact the dealer I bought the car and ask them? See if they can find out if this problem was repaired or not?

seeing as how the recall just came out, I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't have been repaired on your car yet... if it even had to be repaired in the first place.
Like I said, I've had mine since last November 2005, and I never had this problem/issue... of course, my car is garaged, so the temps around my car never get below 40 degrees F...

Yeah its not going to be a problem for me either since I am storing the car over the winter anyways, but its always good to get it repaired anyways. Any brand new part GM wants to put on my car is fine with me!
LOL

Just an FYI, that you can call your local dealer and have them run your VIN to see if your car is one that's affected by the recall. You don't have to wait to get the recall in the mail.
