My Dad did the same for me, but with their old 95 Lumina (again later with the 6th gen)
Let me tell you, having a car that you can work on with your father is probably one of my finer memories. We still go out on nice days (when I'm up in the Poconos) and get together to work and talk about cars.
I say, don't bother fixing it up TOOO good, when stuff breaks and you both diagnose it and work on it together (if he's working, let him use some hard earn dollars on that car) he'll both learn a lot and appreciate the car more.

we started talking numbers and i noticed that my son was getting upset.
I pull him to the side and we started to talk. He said that he didn't want the 5th Gen to be traded in. I asked him WHY? He said that he wanted to see if he could drive it when he got his license. Let me tell you that i was floored. Here is a kid that loves Mustangs and then turns around and tells me he wants to follow in his old man's footsteps as far as cars are concerned.
So i tell Lisa what he said and we walked away form the deal.

I knew you guys would understand. My son means the world to me, and to see him drive my MC, well that makes me really proud. 
BlackSheep, trust me, My son will be doing most of the work. I will be there to guide him and to help him on the things that he don't understand. tonight i will be giving him my repair manual so he can start reading up on what he has in store for him.
So in a few years, there will be a new member here in MCF.
