I have two Montes. I perform general maintenance and have done all the work below myself except as noted.

Monte #1 - 2007 SS - bought brand new - 36,XXX miles

Problems:

- Passenger side window slow going up - fixed by dealer
- Gas cap replaced by dealer

Monte #2 - 2000 SS - bought brand new - 172,XXX miles

Problems

- Intermediate Steering shaft - Replaced by dealer, problem came back. Current fix is to spray lubricant directly on to the shaft.
- Replaced hazard switch (turn signals not working)
- Replaced driver side window switch (window would not go up or down at times)
- Replaced ignition switch (HVAC blower not working)
- Replaced turn signal switch (right turn signal stayed on)
- Replaced mass air flow sensor (Car would not start)
- Replaced crankshaft position sensor (Car would die upon acceleration and not start back up until it sat for a period)
- Replaced rearview mirror (liquid inside started to leak)
- Replaced left from wheel hub assembly (bearings going bad)
- Replaced struts
- Replaced catalytic converter
- Transmission rebuilt by a friend (would not shift into overdrive)
- Lower intake manifold gasket replaced by a mechanic (leaking coolant)
- Driver side heated seat not working (I will try the fix shown on this forum)
- Low coolant sensor unhooked since I replaced with new sensor, the coolant level is okay, and still get message for low coolant

Right now, I have exactly 89,995 miles.

Edit: None of which driven by me, my mom just gave me the car for when I get my license in the summer :P

How many miles to you have on your Monte Carlo ?
It should be just a hair under 99,000 right now.

What problems have you had with your
Monte Carlo ? Please post
Turn signal module went out right about 30k (the common taillight/signal problem).

1 coil pack went bad about 45k (talk about running rough, lol- with 2 cylinders gone, it doesn't want to run at all).

1-2 shift solenoid started acting up and 90% of the 1-2 shifts would be at full line pressure- and it would throw a service engine light most of the time- started about 80k on and off.

Water pump died and puked all over about 90k

LIM gaskets failed sometimes between my last oil change at 95k and 98kish when I did the swap (oil looked like chocolate milk when I went to take it out for the swap).

Obviously I've had more issues with the car since the swap- but those have all been self-inflicted (aftermarket part problem, or installer error), so I don't count those.

Please contain year & engine
in your post.
1996 Monte LS. The first 98,000ish miles on the factory 3100/4T60E; the last 1000 miles or so on a 3800SC / 4T65E-HD.

Do you do your own work on your
Monte ?
lol, yes- almost every bit. There have only been a couple things I didn't do myself:

The turn signal stalk (had the turn signal/brake light problem) was done by the dealer while my parents still owned it (just before I was able to drive).

The old sub box (before I knew about how to 'tune' a ported box or calculate proper specifications)- however this was the one that was stolen.

Head porting- I had done by ZZP's shop because I was not comfortable doing it (afraid of going too far and hitting a coolant jacket) and didn't have access to a flow bench to verify results.

Bottom end machining on the L67- the machines for the align honing, boring, decking, etc are $10k+ each- plus I've never used them, so I had a machine shop take care of all of that; oh and that includes the surface grinding on the oil pump cover too for timing chain clearance.

Other than that, all of the mods and maintenance have been done almost solely by myself.
