remove the two bolts from the caliper, remove the pads. You will more than likely have to push the piston back on the caliper. I usally take a block of wood and a c-clamp to puch it back. take the lid off of the brake fluid resevoir so the fluid can puch back. Put the pads back on and bolt the caliper back in place.

I just leave the old inner pad in there and use that.

One note for the 5th gen guys with rear disks- the rear calipers can't be compressed by this method, they must be screwed back in- they sell a little cube with little tongs for the job or you can improvise.

I always change my own brakes! I think brake jobs are ONE of the largest money makers for some of these shops. Most brake jobs can be done by the pro's in an hour or less (per axle) and they charge crazy amounts for the work. Tire shops love to hit people up for new brakes, and take you to the cleaners while doing it. Disc brakes especially are a rip off to have done..

You can buy OEM equals at autozone (new pads, and new rotors) for the front for right around $100. So for $100 you could have new rotors and pads...try going to a shop, you could be out the door as much as $500-600 for just the fronts. All 4 wheels, $800+ at the shops. Do it yourself, less than $200.

Its really an easy thing to do yourself too.

I agree with MAMONTE. Shops always rip you off on disc brakes. The first time I did my wife's Sante Fe (disc brakes, but unknown setup) I was proud to do the front end in 15 minutes (from wheels up to back on the ground). Were I a shop, that would be one hour shop time (@ $100+).

This is a good resource in reading up and having a good idea on how to replace brake pads, specifically the front brake pads of your vehicle. This would help us on how to really have things work out on your vehicle when applicable. Hope that all is well with you guys!

I just replaced the pads on all 4 corners of my car. I bought the OEM ceramic pads from the Chevy dealership. They were $60/set so it was only $120. I use OEM stuff as much as possible.

I swapped all pads and replaced both rear rotors in about an hour and a half, using the same method as donutboy.

Look on youtube for some videos. I've found that to be a great place to actually see what needs to be done.
