Default Hood liner

Ive been noticing lately how ugly my hoodliner is, and how a few people on this forum dont have one. Can I take it off, or do I have to worry about premature paint damage to the hood from it getting too hot? I would really like to get some mirrors or custom paint stuck in between the braces.

Well, i took mine off the day I got my car and it never did anything bad and I had that hood for about a year. Im pretty sure the only thing that is there for is to keep some engine noise quieter cause you will still have that wheather gaurd flap thing to pretect from water and stuff. But I still dont have mine on still and Im not worrying about anything happening

I had mine off on my monte for a long time, even before I got the new hood- no problems with my paint. Its still on my GP just because its still practically new (the one on my monte had been stained with coolant when my water pump went out-and had dots from salty road water from the winters)

Instead of doing actual mirror plexi or something, they do make a mirror vinyl. Its not as perfectly reflective as a piece of real mirror- but its much easier to install since it can conform to the curve of the hood.

i wonder if this would make it sound better from the outside if you have an intake?

Yes yes YES! I taped mine to my hood when I got my new one just to see if it would... Sure enough, it did.

I took mine off as well, cuz it was stained and ugly, but unfortunetly the underhood looks almost as bad! It wasn't painted very well, it appears to have grey primer on it. I've tried compuound and polish on the outer portion, but it's an aweful dull color under the hood. But it is a tad better than that unsightly hood blanket. *pukes*

A couple years ago, a local car show had a Chevy SSR that had a mirror hood liner. I couldn't find the owner to ask what material he used. But it looked like chrome in person. They even had the "SSR" etched into it.

Just to give you an idea. Maybe get Monte Carlo, or SS printed on your hood liner for an added touch.
