My dad had a 3.4 in a 1998 Chevy Venture minivan. It went to almost 300,000 miles. We only did the intake gaskets once. I think the only reason it died was because he insisted on running 20w50 oil in it, WAY to thick...You can't argue with him, though...

Thanks for all the input! You guys are great.


So I did buy the car. It was considered wholesale so it was sold as-is. I was surprised how well the car drove and ran. Absoulutly no issues with the engine that I or my brother could find. I will keep the possible problems with the lower intakes in mind as per "The_Maniac".

Spent the saturday cleaning and clay barring the monte and I really like it. I still miss my other car but a family member took over the payments so I'll still get to visit it lol.

Welcome to the site. As others have said the intake problems are no reason to run away but make sure you keep an eye on it and at the first sign of a leak or overheating get it fixed immediately to avoid further damage.

Yes, same as the 3.8L and those LIM gasket problems. It's the cheap nylon gaskets used.
