Default Heads!

I just spent a full day at the yard, pulling heads from a 5.7 99 Tahoe. These are the 062 Vortec heads and I only paid $50. I'm pretty excited to get them all cleaned up and put on, mainly because I am so beat, I can't wait for it to be worth it

Talk about uncomfortable leaning over that beast of a fender. It was also on blocks so it was higher up and I have to stand on a stool. I also got a bunch of parts to fix my grand prix. Good day spent.

Vortec heads are always a good upgrade for the older SBCs. Thought about doing it for my Camaro at some point but modding it is kinda off the back burner till I get it painted.

I'm pretty excited to get them on, but I need to get an intake to match them, unless anyone has experience drilling into the old style manifolds to fit the new heads?

And Sarge I was thinking the same thing, but the old paint gives cars character

Well the clear is completely gone off the 73 so it needs paint bad. The motor is also numbers matching so I'm not sure if I want to mess with it or just grab another block to use. You can get intakes to match the Vortec heads. It's a common enough mod that the aftermarket has stepped in. I wouldn't drill the intake personally but that's just me.

Well if it isn't rusty leave it

On the numbers matching part, I would keep the stock motor somewhere and drop in whatever you want, but keep it sbc haha.

Also on this intake part, I already have an awesome weiand team g intake I dont want to give up. Ill have to research a bit.

Nah I want it to look like it did when it rolled off the factory line. Right now it doesn't remotely look factory. That's how bad the paint is. Paint code is midnight blue and it doesn't look it. The stripes it came with from the factory are gone as well.

I have been thinking about pulling the original motor and dropping another 350 in there so I can do some modding.

Vortec 383 or TPI 383 maybe??? I guess I'll cross that bridge when i get there. I don't know if I could see myself going to all that trouble of pulling a motor if I wasn't going fuel injected though.
