It's an interesting shot, a lot of contrast can look good, but that sky is awful. That's clearly just the burn tool with a feather brush and a heavy hand. No masking around the trees or anything. If you chop the sky off it would be much better. Very stylized.

The way that picture looks isn't too much due to editing, its a type of photography called HDR or high dynamic range. Its a combination of 3 different shots that allows all levels of light to be in the shot. If you google hdr pictures you'll get lots like that one. Whenever you shoot a car you are supposed to shoot the same shot 3 times, underexposed, over, and correct.
This way you can piece the shot together. Tires always come out darker, so having the overexposed tires are nice, etc.
I'm simply saying the sky is overdone.
