getting shocked everytime i get out of the car!!
WTF, is all i have to say. I would imagine it's from the cloth seats and cloth floor mats, but i get fricken zapped everytime i get out of the damn car. At night, i can see a bolt come from my hand to the damn door. Hell, even in day light i can see it. I think my thumb is going to turn black from getting zapped so many times!!! [sm=icon_flaming.gif]
But seriously, I'm thinking a set of different floor mats would possibly cure the problem. Something with half rubber/ half carpet maybe. Is there a set acually made for the car as i described. I've looked at fleet farm and what not, and havn't come up with anything good.

LOL I have the same problem and I hate it too... I have rubber mats and I still get zapped. But maybe your right, it could be the cloth seats.
I got zapped so bad one time I felt it all the way up to my shoulder... just glad i wasnt at the gas station at the time haha.

Have someone you really trust stick the connector end of an OBD-2 Code reader in your back-side and see if you are throwing a Code?
You may have to start wearing something rubber or latex while you're behind the wheel.
I think we just naturally get charged-up driving these Monte's ... happens to me; too!

have you put extra stereo equipment or anything electrical on your car? that has happened to several memebrs who added extra electrical stuff. ricers have one thing figured out... you'll see some of them with neon lights and big stereo's have a black strap hooked to the frame of the car dragging the ground... it's a grounding strap. That keeps them from being shocked when they get out of the car.
You know, ya'll just might be right about the cloth seats. Hubby was griping a few weeks ago about getting zapped in his truck, I used to get zapped (usually just during the winter) when I was driving my mother-in-laws car (pre Monte days) and they both have cloth seats. I don't recall getting zappedany in my car but I have leather seats.
I can't say about the cloth seat idea but I do know any time winter shows up around here the static electricity get's worse.
I open the car door for my g/f to exit and get zapped when she touches my hand.
So it's not just your car that this can happen it.

How to Get out of a Car Without Getting Shocked by Static Electricity

Do you embarrass yourself by yelping every time you exit a car? There are simple procedures for preventing static shocks.

Steps
[ol][*]Be aware of your clothing. Synthetic materials, such as most modern fleeces, increase the risk of static shock.[*]Shoes are also important. For example, beach shoes with foam soles are more or less guaranteed to shock you.[*]When you exit the car, grip the metal frame of the door for a couple of seconds before you let your feet touch the ground. The static charge is balanced when you're still seated, when you get up the charge of your clothing doesn't have the opposite charge to hold it where it is. Having your hand on the car frame when get up lets it discharge more slowly. All you need to know is that it works.[*]Wear an anti-static wristband, if possible. These are sold at most electronics stores. They provide a conductive path to ground.[*]Open your door while still sitting in your car seat, reach up and rest your hand on the (outside) roof of the car before you slide/step out. [/ol]

Tips
[*]Touch the glass as you exit, this will discharge any electricity as well with no shock![*]Use an anti-static laundry spray on your car's seats and floor.[*]Hold a key in your hand and touch the metal door frame as you exit. It acts as a lightning rod and discharges the static without pain.[*]Here's a simple technique: tap the door with your knuckle as you exit. Your knuckle is much less sensitive than your fingertip and you won't feel the zap. [/ul]

Warnings
[ul][*]This is actually a safety tip, as static electricity, if not discharged, has actually caused small explosions at gas pumps. You should never re-enter your car while gassing up, as this can provide more static electricity. If you must, make sure you follow the directions above to discharge the electricity before you get anywhere near the fuel pump! [/ul]

Interesting, I don't think I've been zapped driving my Monte around, then again I have some seat covers on and these may be preventing the staticness from attacking me.
I have been Zapped in My monte it has leather seats and I have no aftermarket stereo, It happens when I run my Laptop in the backseat and have my touch screen up on the dash. I power both through the 12V outlet in the back so I have tracked itto that. When I am not running'em no shock. but still it happens once in a while so no biggie.
So it is posible that if you have a cell phone charger or anything else in the 12v outlet in the car that will increase your chances of geting zapped.
