General Monte Carlo Question(s)
I too got my '06 LTZ used. The Chevy dealer still wanted $30k for the new '06 Montes and this was in late september, 2006.
I also got the car for $10k off the new car price. It came with 10,000 plus miles on it. I think only recently have I passed the 3k mileage mark as far as the miles I personally have put on the car. It's setting a 13,799 right now.
For comfort you can't beat the car. It'sbetter then my dad's '08 Sebring.
Handling is good too but I still plan to add a strut tower brace on the car.
Thanks to MCFs member Space, who did my research for me and located the 2003 SS Pace car replica we bought 3 weeks ago for my g/f. If she doesn't love the car (i'm sure she does) ..... I do!!!
But we also own an '81 SC (her's) and an '86 LS (mine) Montes. Great cars. And the 4th gen Montes are really popular now.

I cna say this for the monte carlos.
When I got mine the thing that sold me was the drive train. my mom had one of the first 3800 series1 in the grand ams and had well over 300,000. miles on it when she sold it and it was still running like the day shebought it. she did put in syn. oil after about 20,000.
Also we had a pontiac montanna min van with the 3800 series 1. and it ran pefect till the day we traded it in on the Monte i have now.
Mine is a 03 SS with right at 50,000. miles on it and the only thing i have ever done to it is brakes. the montes have a weak roto from the factory and when or if you have to replace them change them with a good set and they will be fine.
Im actually upgrading mine to the F body style cali[ers on the next pad change.
as for the body. i have had nothign strange that has happend due to the car messing up . due to others messing with it is a completly diffrent story LOL
Why the low resale. Becuse to many folks used them as rental cars and to many of them were classed as a BIG 2dr. coupe and gas hogs.
Funny thing is with it being taken care of im still getting over 300 miles to a tank of fule and i drive 30miles a day back and fourth to work right now.
As for in the snow.
I lived in Germany for two years with mine and we lived on the side of a mountian. My wife has a neon and owned a rustang and even at one time she had a Bemmer. the last two were wreked in the snow. the neon is still alive for the moment.
But th emonte went up and down those roads day or not ice or snow with out even slippign tires or thinking about it.
The tires i had on it were Z rated for runnign on the autobahn. and if ya knwo anythign about tires those are not knowen for snow.
If i had achoice between the montes or another car i would still probbly like the monte.
they are the perfect mid life crisis cars.
Sporty,
Quick for what they are.
nice car to tak eout at night.
and reliabel for the most part unless not taken care of.
Also once you own a monte you will never want to be with out it. and you will sell it and wish you haddent. BELIVE ME i have had more then i needed to over the years LOL

I bought mine from the dealership as a dealer demo.
I love it. The ride is great. I have the supercharged 3800 series II engine.
As for snow, I found that the factory Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires were not good in snow at all.
But this is not a Monte Carlo problem. My 99 Grand Am GT, which I bought new, had the same tires and I had the same problem with traction in snow. TheGrand Am had the 3.4 litre 3400 engine. I would recommend some better tires. But if you're buying used, chances are the original tires have been replaced by now anyway.
Which leads me to the comment Duane (cowboy6622) made. The 3.4 litre 3400 engine from about 1999 and up has a huge issue with the lower intake manifold gasket leaking. It's a problem that cost me over $1200 to repair back when I owned my Grand Am.GM used that engine ina lot of models including the Monte Carlo. But most common in 1999-2005Pontiac Grand Am/Oldsmobile Alero.
My $1200 advice to anyone in the market for a GM car, is to AVOID THE 3.4 LITRE 3400 ENGINE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
Good luck in your search. I would highly recommend the Monte Carlo. Great car! Even in snow. Let us know what you decide one way or the other.

hmmm, come to think of it I did get it about 12 days after my ?? b-day, LOL.BTW, mine is an '02 w/the 3800 and 113,000 miles. Only real problem (since I've had it and I've put a little over 5,000 on it) is that annoying ISS thump/clunk. I'm getting about 24 mpg mixed city/highway and 25 straight highway. Cruised right on up to 98 mph the other day, no problem except for running out of "safe" road.
Oh, and I don't do snow/ice. We don't get much of that stuff here and when we do, I stay home, it's not going to last more than a day anyway, three tops.
