Default G body center consul

I'm curious why some 1980's SS Monte's have center consuls and some have column shift?

True. Not all SS Montes got bucket seats and console. Even some of the aerocoupes came with a bench seat. Kind of a oxy moron to me.

SS = sport package.
Bench seat = grandma's car.

Mine does. Bucket seats and console. Came factory like that.

I used to work with a guy who owned an '86 LS as well. His car was green on green. It came with a bench seat. One thing about the car he didn't like.

i think the benches are lighter. and i dumped mine in favor of the buckets and a rachet shifter. i regret it not. bench is cool. also i have a full console for 78-88 monte carmine red i want to get rid of if anyone is interested.

But you're right. A bench seat is lighter versus two bucket seats. That could be the reason so many 4th gen SS Montes got a bench versus buckets. Since a bench seat would be considered a weight savings.

(I think whoever decided a bench was lighter then buckets, NEVER tried lifting a 2-door bench seat out of a '55/56/57 chevy????)

yeah mine was kinda heavy. and it was all torn up the guy i bought the car from had a blanket over it. it would still be pretty sweet if back then when i was 18 i knew that i could buy a new cover for it and redo it myself. its pretty cool sliding around on a bench seat reminds me of my old mans pick up back in the day.
