Dale... since my '02 black ss took a 2 yr vacation to my son in Tx, the front plate cover disappeared. Now she looks like she has a gapped tooth smile . Alabama doesn't require a front tag, so I'm searching for a replacement. If you, or someone else has one you're not using, I would dearly love to aquire it. I'm a new member, just joined today, so I hope this type of forum use isn't inappropriate.

Welcome Terrus!
Not inappropriate at all.
Something I noticed about gmpartsdirect.com...
If you go searching for a part by narrowing down the description, a lot of times you won't find it. However, when I ran a part number for a part that previously didn't show up, suddenly they had it. And it was cheaper than the dealer.
I found the part number of the 2000-2005 front plate filler. The description on gmpartsdirect is:
Front bumper - Bumper and components - Filler cover - License plate
License plate 2000 - 2005
The part number is: 12335837
They show an MSRP of $127.15
Their price (gmpartsdirect.com) is $78.01
That would most likely be for a new unpainted black plastic filler piece. You would be on your own to paint it.
I don't know if the price at the dealership has gone up since this thread started. But it wouldn't surprise me. That part has been out of production for 4 years now. So as stock goes down, the price will go up. Of course, once all the new stock is gone, our only option is finding a used one.
But buying new would be my last choice. In addition to forums like this one, and ebay, I would also try every junk yard I could think of.
If your state uses front plates, you'll most likely have to contact junkyards in states that don't use front plates.
Hope we can help you find the filler piece you need!
