lol. I agree. I think the 06-07 montes are 7 gens.
Engine cradles and engines are different, taillights, headlights, grilles, bumpers, dashboard, seats, console, tires & rims, remote start, on$tar, xm sat radio... Spoiler bolt patterns.. no u-bend... I could go on..

Although I'm still a newbie, I certainly agree that 06-07 is a 7th generation. In fact, I was convinced of that before I even bought one.
In the Lincoln Mark VIII community, there are two distinct and well-recognized generations - gen-1 (93-96), and gen-2 (97-98). From what I can tell, thesignificant changes that separategen-6 and gen-7 Montes are about the same as those involved with the Mark - perhaps even more with the Monte.
