My first car, a 95 Lumina, changed colors depending on how the sun hit it. It would be blue, but in sunny weather it would be purple.

Last summer I noticed my red Monte looking hazy or even a little on the pink side depending on how the sun hit it.
I washed it and used some Mothers Carnuba Cleaner Wax, and it brought the original color back.

if anything your top of the vehicle, (hood, roof, and trunk), would lighten up do to the clear coat fading over the years if its parked outside. a good wash and wax every three or so months would help eliminate that

My '93 Dodge Shadow ES, the clear coat has all but fallen off it on the roof & hood.

It's got this nasty cracked appearence. Washing or waxing won't help this. Only a repaint will.

I know the roof is a re-paint. I can see the paint lines. And I assume the hood is a re-paint cause when I bought the car the "DOHC 3.0 V6" decal was missing off the power bulge.

Color Temperature.

What color you perceive is wholly dependent on the Color Temperature of the Sun. This Value ... normally around 5600-Degrees (Kelvin) will change causing the Colors YOU SEE to change ... NOT the Color IT IS to change. The effect is better explained by how a person looks photographed with or with flash. Most flashes are in the 38-hundred degree range.

before you cash out on a new paint repair, all that may be needed is to cut the layers down with a compound and re clear it. dont drop cash that you dont need. shops may tell you you need all new paint for a quick come up.

Agreed. If the color coat is good, but just the clear is no more good, then definitely just get it re-cleared. But a lot of Chrysler vehicles from the late 80's all the way to the mid 90's had badly done paint jobs from the factory. I've seen many Mopars from that era that had paint coming off in huge sections after only a few years. I believe Chrysler had a recall on that I think. If you were one of the unlucky owners of one of those paint-peeling vehicles, you had to get the entire car's paint job stripped and re-done.

True. And I believe both parts (hood, roof) are both repaints. Like I saw I can see the paint lines on the roof.

I know the back of the car is repaint. That's from my 09/09/04 rear end accident.

Even my '94 Shadow ES had repaint panels on it. Mopar picked up the bill on a couple of these repairs at their cost.

The body shop told me they would have to strip off the old clear coat to make the car look right. But I think it's been like this too long now (like 2 years) and the base coat is looking like it's been affected?
