Notorious problems for the SS...

Besides the tranny (depending on how it's driven) and the ISS which is any 6th gen, I would say the cars are pretty solid right now.

Wow. I'm suprised you found so many high mileage '06 Monte Carlos. Mine had only 16,500 when I bought it.

And what are these ISS (intermediate steering shafts) that you guys are speaking of?

The problem is a clicking/rubbing sound and feeling while driving.

The ISS needs to be greased. There is a home remedy that I use and some other members use to save the costs.

Go under the dashboard on the driver's side, above the pedals, remove 2 clips and the plastic cover drops,

you'll see a plastic boot that you can peel away to expose a greenish ring.

Shoot a lubricant up in there, turn the wheel 90°, shoot more lubricant.

Place plastic back over, re attach the cover.

I use nail gun oil in spray form, some have used WD-40, but it doesn't last long

It's only a temporary fix, and it will constantly come back, unless you take the whole damn thing apart, remove the ISS and grease it properly. But i'd rather spray it every few months, then go through the labor costs / intensiveness of that.

There are some super prices on Monte Carlo's
and especially 06-07 SS's
Over 50% off MSRP, and I believe the prices
will stabilize after the major first two year depreciation `hit.

Clean/maintained Monte's hold their resale value,
and I think limited Monte's will increase in value
every year.
Didn't they also change "Displacment on Demand" to "Active Fuel Management?"

DoD made it sound like the engine got weaker when the cylinders turned off on the highway.

They were so cheap, they made great daily drivers. I just hit 81k this week.

No problems on my 06 SS that I didnt create myself. Rock solid car as far as I am concerned. I guess I got lucky. Now I hope I can sell it for top dollar.
