ok so 1987 ss monte the fuse for the horn blows all the time. everytime i get ready to get it inspected i hit the horn and nothing replace the fuse and its fixed for the time being and by the next time i actually drive it its blown again. what would cause the horn fuse to constantly blow. it kills the cd player to so i know they are on the same circuit. maybe the cd player was improperly hooked up and its causing it to blow maybe i dunno. any thoughts guys.

 

put in a bigger amp fuse maybe one up and see how long that lasts. likely the horn should not be on the same fuse

 

just an Fyi My radio is 300 watt and the power drop is pumping my 800 watt amp for my 2 10'' kickers (radio cigarette lighter and power drop are the same fuse in my 5th gen) and the original 15 year old fuse blew swapped it with a 15 instead of the 10 that was in its place and all has been well since

 

To be safe..
I'd switch the power lead from your radio to an auxillary fuse..
Leave the horn on its own separate fuse.

 

DO NOT PUT A BIGGER FUSE IN. Do any of you know the reason behind having a specific amp fuse? ***to limit the amps it draws*** The limit isn't just picked out of the blue. The wires that are one each circuit have an amp limit where they can short and burn if they get too high. the fuse prevents this. If the fuse keeps blowing then something is causing the horn to draw to much power. Is it possible that the radio is drawing power from the horn circuit? if not then check the horn circuit for shorts.

 

I want to adress 2 things in this tread!

1 how was your cd player wired in with your horn? Did they just tap off the fuse?

I sugest switching the power lead for the cd player to a aux spot and put an in line fuse for it,
I will post a pic i took a while ago that shows on the fuse block where it has spots for constant power(bat) and switched with ignition

2 ttps21 that has to be the dumbest advice i have heard, the factory fuses are put in place to blow at a certain point for a reason, tossing in a higher blowing fuse is just asking to start an electrical problem and posibly a electrical fire! And the way you have your amp wired is just asking for problems, the factory wiring for a cig lighter is not designed to run an amp

 

I checked the manual it said that it was safe to run a 15 amp instead of a 10amp if the power drop was in use.

 

its not the cig lighter its the radios power drop specially for amplifers. the amp radio and cig lighter are on the same fuse tho after the cars original 10 amp burnt out it also did not work til replaced

 

by the way i popped it with a bad ground for my amp that was going in and out thats the only reason mine popped

 

as you can see i am pointing a bat(the constant power) and you can see the ign(switched ignition power)

the radio was aftermarket when i bought my 4th gen and had it wired into the lights so had to change that ... the factory radio wiring was no where to be seen in my car hence why there is not a fuse in the radio spot
