Can it be done?
Well im totally new to these cars and have heard nothing but bad things but everyday i drive it i love the car even more.
well its a 97 LS 3.1. and i was wondering if its possible to swap in a 3.8 SC(from any gran prix, riviera, 88 LSS) into it. i heard the 3.1 and 3.8's have difft transmissions so anyone done the swap.
i mean if the grand prix can have a 3.8 and a 3.1 then they must ne near the same. so the swap should be pretty straight forward right?
also wondering about fitmetn of 96 impala ss wheels. are they too wide? how bad will it throw off the speedo?
thanks mike

you will need quite a bit of $$$$$$$ for your project. engine, transmission, pcm, wire harness, axles, exhaust, power steering pipes and hoses, transmission cooler lines and hoses, cooling lines and hoses. a pretty big project, but can be done with the time and money. the rear drive impala wheels will not fit without adapters for the bolt pattern also they may rub on the calipers because of the rim offset.
if you can get a complettedonner car for all the parts it will be a plus then everything you will need will be at arms reach
it will be time consuming but not impossible
i know a guy that did a 3.8s/c in his 3.1 z24 i know that its not the same car but the swap would be similer

I'm trying to figure out a way to slide the Hemi in my parents car into my white '94 Dodge Shadow ES.
Wonder if the dealer will notice when they pull the hood and find a 3.0 V6 where the Hemi once lived?
I'm certain my ES would pretty much fly after this.
(who me? I'm innocent???)

oh...my...never ask if anything 'can' be done...lol
of course anything can be done to anything...its how much work are you wanting to do...if they can put a viper engine in a pt cruiser or a helicopter engine in a dodge dakota
<-----best thing i've ever seen..lol..drool!
then i'm sure you can put a 3.8l in a older 97monte...cost a lot of moola...but it would be cool eh
lol
you could also try to put a 350 in there
lol..that would be pretty nice too...but then you'd have to change the car over to rear wheel drive...but that would be cool too

why is it so much money. lets say i find a wrecked car. whats so expensive. ive seen swaps in other cars(mostly imports) that required tons of work and it was too much money. whats the most expensive part. and what exactly is difft. abou the power steering
