Hey 06BlackSS - Couldn't have said it better myself. North Americans had better take a good look at the economy over here. Ford is about to cut its work force almost in half. Guess how many support jobs this will also take with it. North Americans better smarten up before it's too late, although it may already be. Can't understand anyone that can't see what has been happening.
Thanks, I am just sick to death of hearing how much better imports are. Yes, In the late 80's until the late 90's there were definitely quality control problems on alot of domestic vehicles, noone is denying that.....Even when I open up the daily paper and they have "reviews" eack week on cars, if they review 8 cars, 6 or 7 of them are imports. Why is the media and other people so brainwashed that imports are still better then domestics. I am a very proud canadian and if I can, like to buy things that are "MADE IN CANADA" or "MADE IN USA" At least keep the business within North America. The problem in Canada at least is that we have ALOT of immgrants from other countries that only know, Honda, Toyota etc, so naturally when they come here, thats what they buy. Yes alot of these cars are assembled in North America already, but the bottom dollar ends up back overseas at Honda Corporation or Toyoya Corporation. Guys, always, if you can, buy North American for whatever your purchase is.

Simple case in point, Look at your "MicroFibre" towels, MOST of them are made in China or wherever else, Now, if you buy a Fieldcrest/Cannon Towel, its made right in the USA. Your supporting AMERICAN workers who in turn can feed their families and spend money back into the economy. Just an example out of millions.....

Hell, I would buy a domestic car just for the fact its DOMESTIC. They have nothing on us...

Hey leave my Geo out of this. I have never said she was fast, just that she didn't like GAS!
I loved the gas milage out of my Geo too. In fact when I was working as a contractor in IT, I was shipped between north and south Wisconsin all day... I'd get maybe an hour of work done and drive for 7 hours. I loved it plus since I only paid 3,600 for the car I had it paid off in 2 months just off milage reimbursement alone.

Don't think I took that company to the bank either, I solve some rather large problems and saved them over $50,000 in a network setup they were going to do and pointed out some other solutions using routers and VPN's that saved them a ton in security licenses alone.

On cars nothing. I refuse to buy an import.

I will support a global economy depending on what the product is as some areas have a geographical advantage over us. EG: I will NEVER buy a pair of Nike's because of the way they still treat the children that work for them. I will however purchase other products from overseas such as things made of rubber from Malasia or clothing made overseas as well. America isn't a natural source for the rubber tree and we don't have a surplus of cotton anymore. Other countries do and they can produce them cheaper than we can.

I don't believe most Mag's numbers... first, GM's site even states the SS 0-60 is 5.6 seconds... which I think is conservative, since I've done it in about 5.2... and with my CAI and now a tune, I'm sure it's faster than that, cuz it sure launches/responds quicker, pulls harder/accels faster, etc etc...

and second, it all depends on who was driving and how... I've seen some of these magazine road testers on the Speed channel with new cars, and they aren't the most aggressive guys driving - yeah they cruise around at a pretty good clip, and show you acceleration and braking, but I haven't seen them do an all-out launch from a standstill...

Exactly. On top of that, it's difficult to properly launch a FWD car with 300+lbs ft of torque from a stand-still and achieve dead accurate 0-60 figures. But I VERY HIGHLY DOUBT that an '06-'07 Monte SS can only do 0-60 in 6.0 seconds flat (unless too much tire spin was allowed during testing, which I think is exactlyhow that number was achieved). There are plenty of Grand Prix GXP& Impala SS (both of which usenear identical mechanicalunderpinings as the Monte SS)forums with members/owners reporting 5.3-5.5 (and 5.5 seconds was the highest I've seen from an actual owner reporting their times in an online forum, all others were lower) second 0-60 times STOCK. The '06-'07 Monte SS is alsothe LIGHTEST IN TERMS OF WEIGHT between the GXP and Imp SS. Not to mention thatother auto mags (R&T and Motor Trend for starters) rate the Camry V6 at a tenth of a second slower than Motor Week (6.1 seconds0-60).IMHO, a Camry would get its a$$ handed to it any way you slice it.

whats wrong with GM right now is that they are wasting there time resurrecting the @#$% camaro that is all ready gone when the should try to save the cars that are still in the line up not to hit a nurve on anybody but to me the monte carlo is supose to be chevy's sportcar but to me they havent did one since 1988 what GM should do now they have the nices body style of monte carlo ss now so they should put it rear drive and under the hood a LS7 (427) thats the return of the monte carlo ss one monte that would not be scared of any imports or any other cars for that mater
well thats my point of vu and thats is the direction i would like the monte carlo ss to go
it bothered me to see that the monte fell of over the years it would be nice to see it on top again

This is actually Marketing 101 regarding car sales. Once you have a line out for so long, everyone seems to have one and they loose their appeal. Now for the sedan line who cares, in the sports car lineup its a whole new story. Now you NEVER kill your best product, but #2 and below are fair game.

The game basically is having a for example 5 product lines, but only having 4 in production at any given time. If there isn't a demand for a product or a scream if you cut it, then it just dies. If there is no demand, but people scream when the line is discontinued, then it is resurrected and sales go through the roof. You can see it with the Impala when it died in the 80's came back for3 years in the 90's and has been resurrected again. Sales for the Impala are great. The Camaro died off and people screamed, it is now one of the most anticipated cars ever.

Look at the sales of the Ford T-Bird when it came back, it died off, but I'm sure we'll see it again in the future. How about the Dodge Charger and Challenger? Hell I would love to have one of those in my driveway - fast, mean looking, handles great, comfortable, the whole quam.

The Monte died in the 80's, people screamed and it came back. Give it some time and I'm sure it will be resurrected again.
