3800 is a dependable motor with a lot of mods. I like my supercharged 04. You can feel the power when you stomp it.

Thanks for the response from everybody. I am currently in an olds Intrigue( its a decent car but no monte carlo, by a long shot) and would like get another monte, I just wanted to hear what everybody thought about the difference in the 2004-05 and the 2006-07. I'm still on the fence, I think I will go to a dealership this weekend and test the newer ones then find another to test the supercharged ones.

If you want to modify the engine at all, then go with the 3800. It has a great aftermarket. If you're going to keep it stock or mostly stock, then get the LS4.

The V-8 may have more power stock... but from my research the SC V6 has more aftermarket and... I hate to say it... but I like the way they look more too...

I have not owned any of them so in this case I can only offer advice from what I have seen of the members here. It seems that the older front wheel drive Montes are full of mechanical issues. Transmissions and intake issues generally. I'd suggest getting the newest and lowest mile one you can find and then stay on top of the maintenance. You will then stand a chance of not getting someone else's problems.

All engines eventually have gasket problems, and they share the same transmission

06-07 Will have plenty of power and is a great car even factory. The 04-05 Will have a lot more mods you can do if it has the 3800 Series II.
