Best transmission
I am building, in my head currently, a LQ4 swap in to a 83-88 Monte Carlo SS. I don’t know for certain if I will make it carbureted or fuel injected but I was red to ask about the transmission. I don’t know if I have what it takes to convert to manual so I am looking at autos. My question is what would be the best fit for this? I am currently thinking 400 whp and 450 wtq with possible forced induction down the line. I don’t want to skimp on this and I have time to save up the cash. For fuel
injection would a built up 4L60e be the way to go or the 4L80e or possibly the 4L70e? For carbureted do I just build up the 200R4? Unfortunately transmissions are my weak point so any advise in the matter would be much appreciated. Thank you.

IMO you need to commit to a power goal before picking a trans. Putting a 4l80 in it at 400 whp if you never end up boosting it would be a giant waste.
On the flip side, you'd hate to put in a lightly built 4l60, then boost and need to fully build the 60 or do an 80 later.

Thank you for the response. I understand what you are saying and I completly agree. I was just looking around and the 4L60e's that I see top off at max 450 tq. I dont want to push thransmission to the limit. i want something that I will be in the middle at that point. As i said not too ggod with transmissions and not sure how much a 4L60e would need to be built for that.

No doubt an 80 would work too, they're just physically bigger and eat more power. If those don't bother you, then maybe just going straight to an 80 is a better option.
