Default Argh!

Well with 60K+ miles on my car something finally went out, lost my power steering and once I got home I can see and smell the fluid running out the bottom somewhere. Being in college I don't have a jack here so I haven't been able to see what exactly went out but whatever it is I'm not happy about it.

I'll update this once I see what's really broke...

Update:
Well I went and got a jack and looked around, whatever it is I can't see it because the transmission is in the way from underneath and everything else is in the way from above. I guess the next step is to see if any shops around here will tow it in and look at it.

The secret is to run the car in reverse for a few thousand miles every now and then - just so it never hits 60,000. Nothing will break then.

[drum roll][crash]

I couldn't help myself. Sorry about your misfortune. I couldn't think of anyway to really help you out. I still think your better off having not purchased a VW

Lol, my roommate thinks I broke it on purpose so that I wouldn't have to drive to parties anymore...

Anyone have any ideas how much it usually runs to have hoses replaced? I don't think it's the pump 'cause I never had anything wrong, just lost steering and fluid at once.

I was thinking the pump. But that's just a guess on my part. Hopefully what ever the problem is, it won't cost you too much.

Or you could forget about the power steering and build up some arm muscles like Ah-nold, the Gov-inator.

By the way Brent, didn't they try that in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

It could be the pump, but it's not leaking from the pump. Either way I've got to wait 'till Monday to even call anyone to see how much it'll cost to have them look at it.

it's a line, it's a very common failure on our cars. mine went this winter at around 38k. most people have it happen a lot sooner than you did. shop will probably charge a few hundred bucks. good news is the dealer will most likely have the part in stock because it's so common.

So would you recommend going to the dealer or going elsewhere? I know when my battery went out last year they wanted $50 just to check it. I said screw that and had a free test done at Advanced Auto and they fixed me up with a new battery.

I'd take it to the dealer and play the "man, this has happened to everyone I know who owns an 06-07 monte" card and see what they will do for you. I had mine repaired under warranty but the dealer new there is an issue. If I had to, I probably could have talked them down on repair price or gotten them to just charge for the part.
