Sorry to hear that ant.
I think most of us have had stuff like that happen at one time or another.
I know I have. It blows big time, but sometimes s*** happens like that.
I know one winter I took my Grand Am in for an oil change. Came out $1200 poorer, because the lower intake manifold gasket had failed. That's why I won't buy a 3.4 litre (3400 engine) from the years 99-05. The Grand Am/Aleroforums are loaded with L.I.M. stories like that.

Sorry Mike, not trying to make you not like your car.
If it makes you feel any better, most of the problems were in the 99 and 2000 model years. But some of the 01-05 owners on the Grand Am forums reported problems also. If you like, you can check out sites like www.grandamgt.com
But I'll save you some time and tell you that the LIM gasket problem is due to the bolts loosening off over time. If you like, check the bolts occasionally to make sure they still torqued down.
Also, I have yet to see a lot of complaints about the 3400 engine on the Monte Carlo. Most of the problems were reported on Grand Ams and Aleros.
