99 monte starts when jumped but dies when truned off

Default 99 monte starts when jumped but dies when truned off

i have a 99 monte and it starts and runs just fine when jumped but no matter how long i drive it or let the alternator charge it...it wont start when i turn it off...i put some leds in it and used to small guage wire and it started to smolder but i turned it off right away...i have no idea what to do any info will help thanks

Check ur battery and all grounds

im going to check the battery tomaro but im just wondering if using that small gadge wire coulda melted a ground wire some where...where to u think i should start first with that?

You definitely have a short somewhere in the system. It's. Also quite possible you have a failing diode in the alternator.
It doesn't take much "smoldering" to really short out the electrical system on these vehicles.

How old is the battery? Quite possibly it's time for a replacement as well. GM has built in a safety system ..that when the charge gets below a determined voltage it shuts down the ability to keep cranking it til the battery is dead. Thus not overheating the wireing.starter etc..
Batterys generally only have a 3 yr shelf live..Sometimes you may get 5 yrs out of a battery.. but that rarely happens.
