98 Z34 HATE from Jalopnik!
While I agree that a RWD manual trans would be more fun, there's nothing wrong with the platform, it is still solid reliable, and powerful for what it is.
What many people forget, is that the car is 11 years old, we have advanced, and stock horsepower figures are higher now. but comparing the fuel economy stats they are pretty close. GM has tried to maintain that in many of it's cars, unfortunately at the cost of performance.
I see some bashing of the body styling on both generations there as well, to each his own. I think the Mc has clean distinct lines, most of todays cars look to be about the same.

Pure ignorance. I don't know why they are complaining about 200 hp out of a V-6 90s car. You have to remember the 80's Montes V-8 engine had 180 hp.
That guy is a moron. Hatred for a car that was one of chevy's best sellers. These cars are everywhere where I live. I know Im happy with a car that is 12 years old and can still hold its own against brand new cars. No one expects my car to be as fast as it is until im passing their sorry *** on the highway and they cant keep up in their brand new car.

They are criticizing the 90's Monte according to 2009 standards. Which isn't fair.
Judge the 90's Monte by 90's standards. The body style was very popular back then. Most GM cars shared the same smoothed out lines.
And that was during a time when GM was notorious for watering down their horsepower. So getting 200 horses out of a stock 90's chevy (not including the Corvette) was amazing.
I believe a lot of the hating done on the 1995 to 2007 Montes is done by so-called purists who won't be satisfied with anything other than a rear wheel drive V8 with an available manual tranny.
I don't see any hating being done in this thread. Just opinions of an unfair review. Besides, who the hell does a new car review 11 years after the fact?
Also, I think the comment about Dale Earnhardt and dying in a Monte Carlo was a crappy thing to say. Have some freakin respect for the dead!
