hey all. i jus picked up an 87 monte carlo CL. its really clean, no rust, no dings, and only 40,000 on the tach. its the 5.0 V8 305 with and edelbrock manifold, electric choke, and a summit racing air cleaner. its been running fine up until recently where i noticed a change in the idling and when i press the gas it starts to bog. she doesn't stall out completely but im afraid to keep driving it for the sake of blowing up the motor. i dont want to pay for a full tune-up considering i live in hawaii and its expensive. i changed the oil, spark plugs, cap & rotor, wires...i'm wondering what else i could do to get it running cherry? i heard that its probably the timing but still yet i wanna kno what else to do maintenance-wise.

 

Does it still bog down after you did a tune-up?
If so you might think about overhauling the carb and replacing the acclerator pump in it.

 

fuel filter and maybe the carb is dirty check the valves too and make sure that no vacume lines are unhooked that should be it

 

If you take off the air cleaner,with the engine turned off,hit the gas.If the accelerator pump is working,you should see the gas squirt down in the carburetor.If you don't see the gas.the accelerator pump is bad.that will definitely cause a bog like you described.
