Hello all. I am looking for information regarding the original manufacturer of the exhaust system on an 4th gen ('84) Monte SS. Was it made by Chevy or did they outsource the exhaust to a vendor, such as Walker? Many thanks!

Anyone? If the exhaust was made by a 3rd party, I'd like to contact them about the original design.

 

Welcome to the site. I'm not 100% sure but looked around a bit on the net and it looks like gm used walker mufflers in 84 but I don't know about the pipes. I'm sure there are original replacements available like this one here. 1984-1988 Monte Carlo SS Dynomax Muffler Dual Exhaust pipe on eBay!

GM made the pipes. Go to your local Chevy Shop & get your mitts on them. I got the full set of duals for my 82 El Camino some years ago ... Used Dynomax muffs instead, even though the car came with the 305 & a single, PASS SIDE single outlet pipe, ALL the hangers were left for the dual set up that they used when they built Monte's & the bigger-engined Elky's on the platform.

I hung 'em in under an hour, ... on a creeper ... up over the rear end, etc. Ran straight pipes from header collectors on the 406 and into the Dyno's, then out to the pipes from GM.
