Is this a 77 or 75
I was thinking about buy the Monte in this ad
75 Chevy Monte Carlo
A family member is saying this is a 77. Not a 75. Out theory is that he is saying its a 75 and not a 77 due to people not wanting to buy it because of the smog hassle. Is it possible to put a rear end and bumper and headlights from a 77 on a 75? Or is that not possible and this car is really a 77.
Thanks in advance.

Hey doley6985,
Just looked up the V.I.N. decoder and it said the 6th digit in the number will give you the year. Example= 5 is a 1975 and a 7 is a 1977. You can look it up online search in google.

It may be very possible that it's a 75 with a 77 front clip. Many "G" body people (which btw, a "G" body is the same "A" body the 77 is on, just a name change, and it was shortened when the 78 "training day" M/C was available; but called "A" body until 1981) do this with the 78-88 Monte Carlo's and El Camino's so it's not strange to see a 79 front on an 84 or a Monte Carlo SS front on a same year El Camino (which only got the normal Monte Carlo nose).
The best advice I could give you is look up the differences between 75 and 77.
Here's how a 75 is supposed to look like.
As you can see, the fenders can easily interchange, BUT the rear ends cannot interchange, so if the tail lights can't be swapped because they're too different then the car is a 77.
Another thing you can do to make sure is pay to have info on the car via the tag at the DMV. You'll get registration history and if there's something funny, walk away. Also, make sure the VIN is the same throughout the car. The general areas are the window, the engine bay, inside (under the carpet) and in the trunk via a sticker, although this one isn't always there.
