Hi all,

Im fairly new to classic cars and my grand father left me his 76 mc when he died. The car is still in VA and will be transported to FL next month. My question is where can i go on the web to decode the vin and find out exactly what i have? I dont really know what im looking for and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here is some VIN information for you:

1 = Chevrolet
H = Monte Carlo
57 = Body style; colonnade 2 door hardtop; formal roofline

ENGINE CODES
L = 350 cid V-8 4 BC
Q = 305 cid V-8 2 BC
U = 400 cid V-8 4 BC
V = 350 cid V-8 2 BC


6 = 1976

ASSEMBLY PLANT
B = Baltimore, MD
D = Doraville, GA
R = Arlington, TX
Z = Fremont, CA
1 = Oshawa, Ont., Canada

Last 6 digits = production sequence.

I have 1 1976 monte carlo built in oshawa ont. canada was wanting to know the vin if this could be a first day production car for1976? the last six #s of the vin are 460024 I have all the paperwork with car and was a landau with all the options was wanting to know about the 0024 in the end of production sequence number if you can help? thanks!

All Monte Carlo's were built in Oshwa Canada.
Once you receive your Monte.. Pls feel free to post some pics.

Heres a bit of info on your 1976 Monte Carlo...
Not knowing which model/type you have would have helped narrow it down. Heres also a number to call for GM Canada and you an give them your vin# and possibly tell you if in fact that is the correct production number. Hope this helps!
